Camp Fires

Camp Fires at Glenny Wood

At Glenny Wood we have three fabulous and very different campfires areas available for you to use.

Details about each campfire areas are below.

All three campfire areas have two red safety buckets each, so please ensure they are full of water before you start using the campfire.

We also have plenty of wood at Glenny to make a great campfire. We would ask that you use only the wood you will burn and use it sparingly, so there is plenty of wood for your return visit and the many others who use our site. Wood can be scavenged in the sloping woodland area or from our site woodpile.

Only Wood from Glenny can be burnt in our fires.

Holly Camp Fire

This campfire area is just below the lodge. This is our largest campfire area at Glenny Wood. The area is like a three sided bowl with the sides sloping down to the fire pit. It is a fabulous place for all campfire activities, perhaps to hold outdoor meetings, concerts, AGMs and much more. The Campfire area can accommodate from small groups of 15 plus to over 130. Back on the 1st August 2007 Sunrise ceremony we had over 200 round the Campfire renewing their Scout Promise.

Maple Camp Fire

Maple campfire is our newest campfire area which is near Apple at the bottom of the plateau, near the steam and above the loo block. This is a very traditional area with logs to sit on. This small campfire will accommodate between 15/20 people. Use this area to sing, to chat, perhaps "put the world to rights", or cook some tasty food over the fire

Rowan Camp Fire

Rowan campfire - Far end of the site between Willow and above the confidence course. This is a very traditional area with logs to sit on Rowan Campfire will accommodate between 20/30 people and there is plenty of room behind the logs for camp chairs so extra people can come and join in the fun. A great place for traditional campfire activities or just enjoying the mesmerising and constantly moving flames of the fire

Campfire safety and etiquette

All 3 campfire areas have 2 fire buckets provided. Before starting please ensure the buckets are full of water and when leaving again please refill.

When having fires please -

  • Only burn wood you need to. -
  • Avoid excessive banking up of fires. -
  • Use only the wood supplied on site -
  • Don't bring pallet wood to use. -
  • Don’t bring shredding to burn, as it makes such a mess and does not burn that well!

When you have finished at the campfire please ensure - the fires are fully out, nothing is left alight. - all unburnt rubbish including tin foil is removed and taken away.

Please ensure all unused wood is returned to the wood pile, making sure it is not burning.

Please ensure you leave the area clean and tidy with all your rubbish removed and taken away with you.

Wood to burn on our Campfires

There is wood lying around and available at Glenny, so scavenge for wood that has fallen in our woodlands areas.

If using wood from the woodpile, please do not remove or use more than you need.
