How we run Glenny Wood

From January 2025 there is a change to the way the site is managed:-

Angus Wardle, who has been volunteering on site / leading in my absence since January 2018, is taking over the significant task of the day to day running of the site, ensuring it is well maintained, repaired, in good order and that the new development projects are built and available to use as well as managing any Sub Contractors employed.

Angus is now our Volunteer Site Warden..

Phil Savage has been our Volunteer Finance Manager for a two years and will now combine this with undertaking all the admin needed for the site along with arranging the annual safety checks, the site shop and badges.

Phil Woolcock our Volunteer Site Chairman with these changes will now have more time to focus on the overall site development, making best use of Glenny Wood, Woodland management, Bookings, Communications and Funding.

Join the team and volunteer with us..

We are looking for volunteers to help us in many ways,

We are looking for people to come and help us with the Maintenance and Projects on site. Be it one day a week, or once a month, or the time you are available.....

So are you a keen DIYer or Gardener, or someone with loads of enthusiasm who would like to be involved and learn new skills without a massive commitment...then join the team and help us out

So come along and volunteer, be part of the team, enjoy the fresh air and have a fantastic time volunteering at Glenny Wood Scout Campsite

Volunteer Roles not  working on the campsite although key to our success

Volunteer Safety advisor

At our campsite we manage significant risk by the sheer nature of this wooded area, the activities provided and the number of people using Glenny Wood. We are no different from many wood public / camp sites.

Skills - We are therefore looking for someone with an interest and passion for safety to help us review our risk, our actions and activities and seek to further improve what we do. This role is about provide advice, guidance and support and working in liaison with the Glenny team.....

Volunteers to assist with Funding Support

This support can be in various ways, either taking on a project to seek funding for or delivering on a range of projects where we need funding so we can introduce new skills, challenges to the young people using Glenny Wood.

Skills - Some experience in fund raising, completing grant forms etc would be fabulous, or just a willingness to give it a go and learn about raising funds as the programmes progress.

Volunteer Communication and Social Media support

This support is key to getting the messages out about our fabulous site, what is happening and changes planned. We also need to significantly raise our game on social media and ensure Glenny Wood has a positive presence in the wide ranging world of communications.

Skills - Social media user experience and knowing what platforms are available and how to use them. Experience gained from personal use would be a great.

We hope these roles will be of interest to you and you will consider volunteering and support Glenny Wood Scout Campsite. For an informal discussion to find out more about any of the above roles please contact Phil initially using the link below
